Hans Eworth, Allegorical Portrait of Sir John Luttrell, 1550
Please be patient while the animation loads, thank you.
We choose this painting because we thought it was an interesting example of a portrait and it raised lots of questions regarding the contents of the background. During our research we used the Witt Library to discover that the ships and the figure of peace show the treatise between France and England. This was included in his portrait because he was commander in the navy and a leading figure in the treatise. For our animation we focused on the physical history of the painting and the damages it suffered over the years. To explore this we created a time lapse of the painting through its life, replicating the damage it went through.
