This project places online Hendrick Hondius the Elder’s Pictorum aliquot celebrium, præcipué Germaniæ Inferioris, effiges (The Hague, 1610), which contains 68 portrait prints of Netherlandish artists. High quality images are accompanied by translations of the Latin texts and analytical essays by leading scholars.
The images you will see here come from a volume of Hondius’s Effigies in the British Library (555.d.22).
Enlarge the images and follow links to English translations of the Latin texts, and to information about the engravings.
